Hermanus, from Onrus and Vermont to Voëlklip, sits right on the Walker Bay coastline. That means great sunshine, but also salt air, wind and many homes that stand empty for part of the year. Sundial Solar designs solar and battery systems that suit both permanent residents and holiday homeowners in the Overstrand.
Overstrand Municipality supply
Hermanus is supplied by Overstrand Municipality, which has its own process for approving small-scale embedded generation. Properties outside town may be supplied directly by Eskom. We confirm your supplier and handle the application and compliance certificates for you.
Coastal salt and wind
Clifftop and seafront homes take the full force of the weather. We use corrosion-resistant mounting hardware, wind-rated clamping and indoor placement for inverters and batteries. Panels close to the sea should be rinsed periodically to remove salt, and we’ll advise on a simple maintenance routine.
Holiday homes and remote monitoring
If you only visit Hermanus on weekends or during the holidays, solar with remote monitoring lets you check your system from Cape Town or anywhere else. A battery keeps alarms, cameras, gate motors and fridges running through outages while you’re away, and a properly configured system can keep the battery healthy when the house is empty.
Typical systems
Many Hermanus homes choose a 5 to 10 kW hybrid system with lithium storage. Guest houses and restaurants can benefit from commercial solar. See our residential solar kits, residential solar, or use the solar calculator.
Sundial Solar is a SAPVIA member and PV GreenCard-certified installer. Every system is installed to SANS 10142 wiring standards and comes with the compliance documentation you need.

Frequently asked questions
Do you install solar in Hermanus?
Yes. We install across Hermanus and the Overstrand, and we’ll confirm travel and scheduling when we quote.
Can I monitor my holiday home’s solar remotely?
Yes. Most modern hybrid inverters include an app that shows production, battery level and outages from your phone.
How do I protect a seafront system from salt?
Use corrosion-resistant hardware, keep electronics indoors and rinse panels periodically. We build all of this into coastal installs.
